A New (Canceled) Duke Nukem Game Called Duke Begins Revealed

I'm reading: A New (Canceled) Duke Nukem Game Called Duke Begins RevealedTweet this!

DUKE BEGINS: A new Duke game that's not Duke Nukem Forever is revealed during ongoing court battle.

A New (Canceled) Duke Nukem Game Called Duke Begins Revealed

GamePolitics reports that 2K Games was developing a new video game in the Duke Nukem series that's entirely separate from Dukem Nukem Forever for PC or the sidescrolling Duke Nukem Trilogy game for DS and PSP. The new game, called Duke Begins, was revealed during the court battle between Take-Two Interactive and 3D Realms.

Duke Begins, which began development in 2007, was originally scheduled for a 2010 release date, but has now been "halted or otherwise cancelled" according to Apogee.

Read the following court document excerpts below for further details on Duke Begins.

On October 22, 2007, Apogee, Take-Two, and 2K Games entered into an agreement in which Apogee granted 2K Games the exclusive right to develop and publish a new videogame based upon Apogee's Duke Nukem franchise. The new game was given the working title of "Duke Begins" and is not the same game as the DNF game.

The original development schedule for the Duke Begins game provided that the game was to be completed and commercially released by mid-2010.

Take Two and/or its subsidiary 2K Games halted or otherwise cancelled all development work by the third-party game developer on the Duke Begins game in April 2009 without Apogee's approval or consent.

THE VERDICT by Sports LegendsI wonder what Duke Begins was going to be like. A direct sequel to Duke Nukem Forever? A spinoff of the series? I say they just release both games as downloads in whatever development stage they were in before the s- hit the fan. I'll pay $20 for a half-finished game.
