Nintendo Always Planned For GameCube Games On The Wii

I'm reading: Nintendo Always Planned For GameCube Games On The WiiTweet this!

Some Nintendo Wii owners are indignant that the company has so far announced only two titles for winter release (Mario Power Tennis and Pikmin).

Don't get your hopes up for Nintendo franchise remakes.
As if that wasn't bad enough, both games are re-hashed GameCube titles with new controls. It's frustrating, sure, but as MTV's Multiplayer points out, it's not unexpected. Multiplayer spoke to Nintendo head honcho Satoru Iwata three years ago, back when the Wii was called The Revolution, and he said this was the company's plan all along.

“Despite the fact that a lot of very, very fun titles were released for Nintendo GameCube, not very many people got to experience them," Iwata explained. "And that’s why I’m hoping that, with Nintendo Revolution, number one, I think we’re going to be able to build that momentum. And number two, I’m hoping that people who didn’t play games on Nintendo GameCube will, through the backward compatibility of Nintendo Revolution, go back and try out some of that unique and innovative software that we released on the Nintendo GameCube.”

I don't know about you, but I would have assumed that Iwata meant we'd be able to play the GameCube games we love and exciting new titles. I didn't realize it was an either/or situation.
