'World Of Warcraft' May Disqualify You For A Job

I'm reading: 'World Of Warcraft' May Disqualify You For A JobTweet this!

We're going to file this under bull *cough*

According to an employer, "...employers believe that
WoW people can't give a 100% on the job and lack
focus"
Some guy recently met with a recruiter who specializes in online media industry. The recruiter expressed to him that his clients, the employers who are looking for job candidates, specifically instruct him that they don't want World of Warcraft players.

What?!

The recruiter went on to say that employers believe that WoW people can't give a 100% on the job and that they lack focus because their attention is swirling around elsewhere. Oh, and their sleeping patterns are all messed up, too.

The guy argued with the recruiter that there's literature that says MMOG leadership experience can be positive for a person's career, or a means to develop project management skills.

The recruiter wasn't having it. He emphatically trudged on by saying he's been instructed to avoid WoW players --what, like the plague?

THE VERDICT by Sports Legends

What do you think? Do you agree with the recruiter that WoW players are a liability on the job, or is this baseless discrimination?

It's still amazing how popular it is though. Believe it or not, but WoW is what's keeping the PC gaming market alive. Without it, PC gaming would be dead. Blizzard also report earlier this year that WoW subscribers now equal the state of Ohio which is a massive feat which other game companies have tried (and so far, failed) to achieve. Whether we want it or not, World of Warcraft is here to stay and shows no signs of slowing down.

"WoW is what's keeping the PC gaming market alive"

That doesn't really make any sense. How is Blizzard's success with WoW beneficial to other PC game companies? Now if you said STEAM is keeping the PC gaming market alive, you would at least have an argument. But I think the PC market is doing just fine, despite piracy, and low NPD sales reports (which don't take into account digital sales, or online orders).

You're absolutely right. However, the message I was trying to convey was the fact that without WoW, the PC gaming market would be struggling, which would also be due to piracy and low NPD sales (which you mentioned). The PC gaming market is content at the moment, because games like WoW and Command & Conquer etc. are keeping gamers playing their games on the PC rather than on consoles which is vital to a system's success or downfall.

I seem to agree with the recruiter, and then agree with "The guy" They both have a point, MMO players that are so consumed with a game like WoW, intend to day dream away, or rather lose focus sometimes. On the other hand, it demands leadership abilities to run a 40 mans raid.

I agree with the guy. Blizzard should not be denying wow players the right to get a job. Maybe they would rather prefer players to quit paying "them" money so that Blizzard can pay them money for a job.
