Two new WiiWare games are joined by Zoda's Revenge on Virtual Console.
While much of the industry is enjoying a well earned holiday break, Nintendo is keeping the Wii Store spigot running. This week brings the usual slate of releases, with Maboshi's Arcade and Pool Revolution: Cue Sports on WiiWare, and Zoda's Revenge: Star Tropics II for the Virtual Console.
Even by the generally ambiguous standards of these official WiiWare game descriptions, the explanation of Maboshi's Arcade is pretty hard to deduce. The game (which is actually a first party Nintendo title) features "three distinct modes and simultaneous play across three game windows." The three game windows are based on three shapes: circle (where you "bash enemies"), stick (where you "weave your way through"), and square (where you "burn a pass around obstacles"). Each mode tasks you with scoring a million points, but action in one window could affect what's happening in another. Whatever all that means, Maboshi's Arcade also has some nifty features, including Mii support, and the ability to save "action replays" and share them with your friends online. The game will run you 800 Wii Points ($8).
Next up is Pool Revolution: Cue Sports, which is far easier to understand: It's a billiards game, where you'll use the Wii remote as your cue. Developed by Hudson, Cue Sports offers 9-Ball, 8-Ball, Rotation, and Snooker, along with a Puzzle mode that has walk-throughs of trick shots. You can also play against opponents online through the Wi-Fi Connection, or improve your skills in a Practice mode. Cue Sports will run you 500 Wii Points ($5).
And on Virtual Console this week, there's Zoda's Revenge: Star Tropics II for the NES. Like its predecessor, the game is actually a top-down adventure title in the Zelda vein, and was actually developed in-house at Nintendo. Zoda's Revenge will run you 500 Wii Points ($5).
