The man himself nearly confirms motion-controls for next console games.
Tony Hawk games have been criticized lately, but the man himself says the team is working to make the next game as authentic as possible. In an interview with CNET, Hawk explained how he participates in the development process of the games that carry his namesake. "I don't want to say we're starting from zero," he said, "but we are rebuilding the whole game, so I'm back to being fully immersed at every step of the way so I can make sure it's authentic when it comes out." The "authentic" key word was used a few more times in the interview, and Hawk says imitating skateboarding is "the most important thing to me."
He also strongly hints at the series' worst-kept secret, the motion controls coming in the next set of games. Asked about the iPhone's accelerometer, he says "we're going to incorporate that technology into our next game," but says the game will be for consoles instead of the iPhone itself. This also rules out that he's referring to the DS game, which will also include a motion peripheral.
Motion controls have been rumored for months, and as far back as last year Hawk has said he sees the appeal of the Wii Balance Board. Hawk is tight-lipped about which consoles it's slated for, so they could still plan to use the Wii board or to make their own peripheral for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. All of this aligns with the "Tony Hawk Innovation Plan", but aiming for realism seems like a new focus for a series that has been slowly growing more outrageous and comical. We'll see if the changes are enough to take on the critical smash Skate series when the next game is revealed.
