Sony Says Gran Turismo 5 Release Date Still Unconfirmed

I'm reading: Sony Says Gran Turismo 5 Release Date Still UnconfirmedTweet this!

Report of a release by Christmas 2009 is not official, says Sony U.K.

SCEA is still unsure about a solid release date for the highly anticipated realistic racer, Gran Turismo 5.

Earlier this week, we passed along a report that Sony's chief executive of southern Europe, James Armstrong, said Sony expects Gran Turismo 5 to be released by Christmas of 2009. Well, it seems either Armstrong was misquoted, or not everyone at Sony is on the same page. Speaking to Videogamer, a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment U.K. said Gran Turismo 5's release date has yet to be determined.

"Polyphony are working on GT5, but we cannot confirm a launch date at this point in time," the spokesperson said. We can only hope this hedging means Gran Turismo 5 could be coming earlier than Christmas of next year, and not later. By the end of 2009, it will have already been nearly five years since Gran Turismo 4 was released on the PlayStation 2. We know the folks at Polyphony have somewhat of a reputation for being perfectionists, but any wait longer than that seems to be getting out of hand, doesn't it?
