Owners of both a 360 and PS3 will face a hard decision when RE5 releases in March.
Namco Bandai dared you to pick between Darth Vader and Yoda when it split the two up for the initial release of Soul Calibur 4 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. And while they've since (unsurprisingly) patched up that quandary for gamers with a downloadable content release, gamers in Japan with both a PS3 and 360 are going to face another this-or-that decision come March when Resident Evil 5 releases. You'll be finding yourself with some different exclusive goodies depending on which console you decide to play the game on, according to translations of a Japanese Capcom site (via CVG). We've contacted Capcom to find out exactly what their plans are for the North American release and were told they "will be announced soon."
For those of you in Japan, don't get too worked up -- we're not talking about exclusive characters or areas or anything that substantial. No, what you'll be deciding between is the PS3 version's bonus making-of feature and the 360's metal case and "Biohazard 5 Selection Track" soundtrack. At first glance that might seem like an easy decision for the 360 version, but you'll only be getting those bonuses in an 'initial allotment' of the 'Deluxe Edition.' The PS3's bonus, on the other hand, will be right on the game disc, no fancy version needed.
And what would a videogame release be these days without a proper Limited Edition? We learned last week that a demo is in the works -- which is possibly a 360 exclusive -- as well as the details of the Limited Edition of the game. The bundle will only be available through Capcom's online store (in Japan, at least) and packs a 32-page art book, a uniquely-shaped 2GB USB flash drive with the Tricell name and logo on it, and a waist pouch with the BSAA logo on it, just like you see in the game. Pictures of all the pieces can be seen here where Japanese gamers can begin placing preorders for a limited time. So far we know of at least one person who you'll be unlikely to be competing against for a copy -- Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami.
