Jun Takeuchi would consider remaking Resident Evil 2, but only once Resident Evil 5 is finished.
Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi sat down with Eurogamer to chat about the latest entry in the popular survival-horror franchise, and while much of the information has already been covered, a few new details have emerged.
Perhaps the most exciting revelation to come out of this interview is Capcom's plan to release a downloadable demo for the game in the near future. "We'll be making an announcement about that relatively soon," Takeuchi teased Eurogamer. With pre-release demos often equating to higher sales, this pleasant bit of news may not be terribly surprising, but it's good to hear nonetheless.
The Capcom producer went on to talk potential downloadable content once Resident Evil 5 is out the door. "That's one of the things we're thinking about right now," Takeuchi said of RE5 DLC, adding, "We do get that question a lot, and people seem to want it, so it's possible that it's something we would like to respond to."
Also discussed were the notorious installation times that accompanied the PS3 release of Capcom's Devil May Cry 4, and whether or not Resident Evil fans can expect similar impediments when RE5 drops next year. Though much remains uncertain, Takeuchi pledged, "We're still working on those technical elements in the last couple of months, but we can tell you that if users are dissatisfied with that kind of thing, then it's certainly something we keep in mind when we develop," continuing, "We'll do our best to come up with something that users will not criticize, but love..."
Finally, it was mentioned that once work on Resident Evil 5 is completed, a remake of fan-favorite Resident Evil 2 might be in the cards. Takeuchi -- who himself worked on Resident Evil 2 -- couldn't deny the appeal of a modernized RE2, telling Eurogamer, "You know, I think there is the demand for it. It's certainly something we would like to consider and think about, but, quite frankly our hands are full with Resident Evil 5 right now, and trying to get that out of the door, so we're going to have to put all of our focus on Resident Evil 5 for the moment." Not a formal announcement by any means, but it's interesting either way.
