Skate Launching This September For Xbox 360 And PS3

Electronic Arts announced on Friday that Tony Hawk killer Skate will ship to retail on September 12 for Xbox 360 and September 24 for PS3. EA will also release a demo to Xbox Live Marketplace on August 15.

Skate demo coming to Xbox Live Marketplace on August 15

The downloadable demo features gameplay tutorials and a single level introduction to the game's "Flickit" controls where players use analog sticks to pull of combos in lieu of button mashing. The demo also allows for video captures of skate session which can be shared online at www.skate.ea.com for other players to view, rate and comment on.

Skate is EA's attempt to cash in on the highly lucrative skating genre pioneered by the widely successful Tony Hawk series. To counter EA's launch, Activision will release Tony Hawk's Proving Ground on October 9, it being the ninth title in the franchise.

The Verdict:
I've always liked Tony Hawk since first getting my mitts on the game back in 1999. Still, I must admit I'm slightly more interested in Skate given its different, free-roaming (non-mission-based) approach to tearing up some turf.
